MASS CONFUSION IN SHELBYVILLE – TRAINERS ABOUT TO REVOLT – EXHIBITORS FEEL DUPED BY CELEBRATION MANAGEMENT

SHELBYVILLE, TN – Mass chaos is underway in the Tennessee Walking Horse World with “Herr” Howard announcing the Mandatory “Minimum Penalties” at close of business Monday.

The Walking Horse Trainers are acting like they don’t have a clue about how things are going to work and there are some rumors floating that some of them are plotting on how to deal with things.

The Celebration has given the Owners/Exhibitors the SHAFT in giving them a whole 8 HOURS to ask for a refund of their fees – AFTER many of them have already gone to the expense of traveling across the country to Shelbyville.

Somehow, one doesn’t think this character running things is exactly what Henry Davis had in mind when he suggested the idea of the city holding a nice festival that would help the local civic clubs.

  1. I wonder on those mandatory penalties– does a foreign substance violation count as a bilateral?

  2. Hi Charm, it does not. Foreign substance is detected by swabbing although a determination could be made by looking at the horse’s front legs and hooves.. Determination of soring involves several things including digital palpation of a horses pasterns and forelegs and having it walk the cones which is locomotion. The inspection can detect unilateral sore, – one footer or bilateral sore – two footer. And then there is the scar rule. If a horse is in violation of the scar rule it is considered to be a sore horse. Hope this helped. bgb

  3. It’s going to be an interesting show! I mean that in a totally negative way folks. I wish we were excited about the quality of the competition. I wish we were really blessed by this historic 75th edition of a breed showcase. I wish we were following personal interest stories about the horses and their people. Instead, once again, this year will be all about who is ‘getting by with it” one more time, that meaning “soring” in all its forms, chemical. mechanical, physical, mental, etc. Just one more reason why none of my money is being spent in Shelbyville or even anywhere in Tennessee this August.
