THETA, TN – Nephew Eugene was over in Shelbyville the other day and went by Richard’s for lunch. His favorite waitress Lorene was glad to see Eugene. She knows Eugene likes the horses and Lorene had some news for him.
Lorene said young Jeffrey Howard
rolled in with Trainer Mickey McCormick
And they had some piece of paper with them, and they kept talking with some important looking person she didn’t recognize. It seems Jeffrey and MIckey were reading from this piece of paper, and they were apparently trying to persuade this fellow to do something. They kept mentioning Marsha Blackburn and saying her name over and over again.
It seems like Young Jeffrey and Trainer Mickey were trying to convince this man about doing something that had to do with the paper.
Lorene did hear one of them say,
“Will TWHBEA endorse this?”
And about that time, Lorene said she heard cell phones start going off with all three of them at the same time, and they kept saying, “Post cards? Post cards? You have received what? Did it come in the mail? What did it say? It wants you to vote?
Then Lorene said all three of them jumped up and went right out the front door.
Nephew Eugene asked Lorene what day did this happen?
Lorene said Monday, September 23.
Eugene said, Oh Lord, Lorene, that was the same day about 7,000 post cards got delivered all over America asking people to vote. There was a picture of a bunch of horses looking at folks asking them to vote for them.
Lorene asked Eugene, “What did the Horses want people to vote for?”
Eugene explained the Horses wanted folks to please vote to end soring by marking “YES” on the post card about passing some law up in Washington, and then mailing it in so their vote could be counted.
Nephew Eugene said the “Big Lick” crowd was all upset and having running hissy fits because the people who paid dues to the Walking Horse breed registry might finally have a say in what was going to happen.
Lorene said she didn’t want to be nosey but what were they all so upset about over folks just getting to have a say.
Nephew Eugene said it was real hard to explain, but they were sure upset.
