SHELBYVILLE, TN – No equine breed’s young horses are treated worse than the sore Big Lick does the Tennessee Walking Horse. The young colts are put under saddle at 16 – 18 months old, then padded up and chained, and then sored to learn the Big Lick. Then they are shown in a chain over the same course as an aged horse. No other breed does this. By being educated to these practices, the public has rejected the Big Lick Tennessee Walking Horse as something they want absolutely nothing to do with.
CELEBRATION TO BE VENUE FOR HISTORIC FIRST – YOUNG COLT PREVIEW
This coming Friday, Feb. 28, and Saturday, March 1, David L. Howard‘s Celebration is hosting a Colt Preview. It is going to feature Two and Three Year olds under saddle ON the Celebration Grounds IN the CALSONIC ARENA. You register at 4:00 p.m., and the Colts will be ridden in the Calsonic Arena. A party and live band will follow.
Never before has the Celebration done anything like this. It will be a GROUNDBREAKING first in which the sore Big Lick tries to rejuvenate itself
SPRING FLING 2014 – 2 BIG DAYS – AT CELEBRATION’S CALSONIC ARENA
If you have been to many colt previews, you know that they can sometimes be “loosely run” affairs. Often times, there is lots of soring and sometimes one pair of chains becomes two. Or sometimes the one pair exceeds 6 ounces. Then you sometimes you have half blinders and sometimes full blinders. In short, a lot often goes on in the name of seeing what the young stock is capable of doing. Often, anything goes to square them up and have them sitting down and hitting. Meanwhile the good ole boys and girls sit around, eat, drink, socialize and enjoy it all like a church social.

WHO is going to protect the young horses?
After the Colt Preview, the Big Lickers are throwing a big party with a live band. Then on Saturday, a full blown Big Lick Horse Sale will take place … again at Calsonic Arena on the Celebration grounds. It is interesting to note that Rippy Livestock Auction Services has its own sale facility in Shelbyville, the former Waterfall Farms, now known as Pleasant Valley Farms. Rather than the sales being held at Pleasant Valley, the Celebration is opening its arms wide to welcome the Colt Preview and Horse Sale. At one time, Shelbyville was home to several walking horse auctions including Wiser Farm, Sand Creek and Sale of Champions. The Sale of Champions October 2013 sale was cancelled. Some are no longer in business.
David L. Howard’s Celebration is trying desperately to blow the air back up in the Big Lick balloon which has been deflated due to the exposure of the institutionalized soring which has become well known with national momentum favoring passage of the PAST ACT to remove the pads and chains, to eliminate the corrupt HIO systems, and make horse soring a federal felony.
The only protectors the young Horses have are APHIS Administrator Kevin Shea and Chester Gipson and concerned citizens which support them.
Americans who care about the welfare of The Horses, especially the young ones, plead with Kevin Shea and Chester Gipson to send VMOs to inspect the Big Lick horses this Friday and Saturday.
Usually, the National Trainers Show is the kick-off for the Big Lick show season, but this year, the sore Big Lick is trying an Historic First to jump start the Big Lick which is under fire from all points of the quadrant:
- American Horse Council
- American Veterinary Associations
- America’s Trail Riders
- 264 U. S. Representatives Sponsoring the PAST Act
- 44 U. S. Senators Sponsoring the PAST Act
Will USDA Administrators Kevin Shea and Chester Gipson send Federal VMOs (Veterinary Medical Officers) to protect The Horses?
