Subject: Happenings at TWHBEA
Dear TWHBEA Executive Committee,It was with sheer disbelief that I read Mr. Chism’s recent response to International TWHBEA Director, Bill Adams, of Canada.“I don’t see this as any of your concern since you are not a citizen of the United States. I may be a little blunt but you need to express your opinion to the Canadian government and leave United States law to U.S. citizens.”Not only was Mr. Chism blunt, he was stupidly arrogant and condescending and is out of touch with TWHBEA’s members’ rights. His bullying response is an embarrassment to the entire TWHBEA organization. If any of you think that insulting a TWHBEA International Director and those they represent is OK because of your EC position, you should resign as you have no understanding of what leadership and representation means.I have one question after reading his response: Why does TWHBEA annually spend federal (taxpayer) funds every year to internationally promote the Tennessee Walking Horse and allow an EC member to sabotage those dollars and efforts by writing such a response to a TWHBEA International Director? If the EC truly feels that TWHBEA’s non-U.S. members should have no voice in the future of the Tennessee Walking Horse, than please share that with all of them so they can search for another horse to support, market, promote, exhibit and breed and TWHBEA can stop wasting taxpayer money every year.In case you have not noticed, the big lick is NOT marketable anywhere in the world and is probably illegal. Who knows, maybe TWHBEA’s non-U.S. members have more insight than you on how to market the Tennessee Walking Horse around the world? Maybe Mr. Adams understands how the big lick is achieved and knows the PAST Act will save our breed which is much more important than saving a division which is NOT marketable. If the EC continues to ride that big lick horse, you will soon find yourselves with only a few hundred members. What a proud accomplishment and you can all hold your heads high, right? So, what’s it going to be? Dish out insults, arrogance and rudeness so that TWHBEA continues to shrink to a few hundred members who care about “all” divisions instead of caring for the welfare and future of the Tennessee Walking Horse?I also read of TWHBEA’s support of Congresswoman Blackburn’s bill. Are you kidding me? Her bill does nothing to end soring. Don’t any of you get it? People want soring to end. The TWHBEA EC wants to preserve a big lick horse and the vast majority of TWHBEA members and the public want a sound horse“”so who is in the minority?Blackburn’s solution is science and technology, and she wants to put it in the hands of a single monopoly HIO””how well did that work for the 2012 Celebration? SHOW misrepresented the swabbing and test results from day one at the Celebration to every exhibitor, trainer and the public. Don’t you get it? Science and technology only work if there is an honest HIO in charge. Why do you think it will work now after the false results published in 2012 by SHOW?Blackburn’s bill places KY and TN in charge””the two states with the greatest number of HPA violations. Can we really trust their Agricultural Commissioners to put a sound horse in the ring? Doesn’t the EC want only sound horses in the ring? How about all that power solely in one HIO? How well did that serve TWHBEA when it was thrown off the Celebration grounds? And now you support SHOW’s and PSHA’s efforts for a single HIO???? Haven’t you learned anything? If Blackburn’s bill passes, TWHBEA will be the kickball.Blackburn’s bill also allows no input from Walking Horse stakeholders outside of TN and KY which means no input from owners in Missouri, Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, Mississippi, etc., Her bill allows no input from TWHBEA””the breed registry which has members spread all across the U.S. Instead, the KY and TN people make all the rules with consultation from the Trainers””there’s another group that really knows how to put a sound horse in the ring””over 115 HPA violations collectively imposed on their Board. Finally, the 88,000 member AVMA has spoken out strongly against the Blackburn bill””do you think maybe they know something that you do not? Maybe that her Bill would do nothing to end soring and continues to have the fox guarding the hen house although this time it would be guarding the actual results of science and technology? So, TWHBEA, how can you support a bill that allows no input from you or any of your members other than KY and TN? Nothing like throwing yourself and all your members under the bus at the same time. Why didn’t you withhold your support until TWHBEA had a voice in the future of the Tennessee Walking Horse? Why would you be willing to only allow KY and TN voices to be heard? Oh yes, and I almost forgot, the voice of those noble Trainers with their impeccably clean violation records.Sincerely,Teresa BippenTWHBEA Missouri Member
