Soring Abuse
Using these cruel and inhumane methods on any creature should be illegal and punished wherever it is found. I encourage strict veterinary examination of all “Big Lick” horses to uncover soring. Horses are beautiful as they naturally are, and any such embellishment is unnecessary, unethical, and despicable.

hooves so please enlighten me on why stacks, weights are not doing damage to the hooves? every horse I have ever seen with stacks, pads has hoof issues usually bad cases of thrush or white line disease. the weights and exaggerated motion also causes ligament and tendon damage. these so called show horses are finished by age12 to 15 because of all the damage done.

HORSE SORING You go Priscilla. I have been recently made aware of horse soring. Why don’t we sore the owners and trainers responsible for this violent treatment to our friendly horses. What did the horses ever do to deserve such torture.

And to think Americans keep judging other societies.Disgusting, repulsive, greedy Americans supported by ignorance and a governing body that has no soul.

Cruelty I felt terrible grief for the horses I had never heard of before and as well for Priscilla that she had to learn about this cruelty to this beautiful animal her parents taught her to love so dearly. How very short sighted that these people seem to not realise their tourist industry is a type of abhorrent falsity of the worst sort based on this premise that it’s ok to do that to the horses, to place the weights on the legs in ANY case. To CONTINUE to do that… to PRISCILLA!? I’m dumbfounded.

Walk of shame I can’t believe this is done! And beating the horses in the barn? Why? This must be stopped asap. Why the state and federal governments still allow this I cannot understand.

Soring Thx Mary Ann for exposing the bi-lick pain-based gait to the rest of the world and what we the sound horse people are fighting against to stop this abusive practice that has persisted in the show ring for far too long. Organizations like FOSH (Friends of Sound Horses), NWHA (National Walking Horse Association), WWHA (World Walking Horse Association), and IWHA (Int’l Walking Horse Association) have fought against the sore big-lick, pain-based gait so long. Feds need to step in and step up!

Walking horse owners & breeders need to be given the death penalty for abuse, torture, breach and violation of the ‘Horses Act’ in USA : The USA government and judicial system must take the necessary action to cease this severe physical cruelty,
I am horrified this extensive abuse, horse torture, continued violations and breaches of the ‘Horses Act’ in USA continues everyday by the ‘walking horse’ owners and breeders for profit. The world is watching and waiting for the USA government and judicial system to cease this severe cruelty to horses immediately, instead of shamefully turning their back to this systemic continued crime for profit. Have americans lost their moral compass? Obama needs to take immediate action to cease this crime.

Gross abuse of “walking horses”
I was gobsmacked by Mark Davis’s opening comments “in for a treat”??! A TREAT? I was shocked by what was being done to these beautiful animals, just for prizes and prestige?!It left me sleepless and I question how a supposed modern society can allow such disgrace?I commend Priscilla Presley for taking this issue on but sadly, even if it is banned,it will probably still happen, just like dog fighting?!Id like to see some of those “trainers” having their legs “sored” and see how they like it!

Equines Robbed of Their Athleticism
“TRAINER” (gigantic quotes) Winky Groover states: “It’s not abuse, these horses are real equine athletes.” BS WInky. They are Equines robbed of their Athleticism. That’s the absolute truth. Those horses are being destroyed and torn apart. I am a fan of using horses for humane purposes that work with the animals natural talent, not against it. The BIG LICK is a sin and must be stopped. THE HORROR. GREAT PROGRAM! KEEP THE PRESSURE UP.

Human Shame
shame on the judges/breeders/spectators and anyone else who supports this horrendous practice. I hope these people will take a hard look at themselves and maybe, just maybe they will find a bit of heart and they will decide to stop this cruel “sport”

Walking Horses Don’t Need To Hurt To Work
In my barn stand many individuals who have been victims of human cruelty and, under my pastures lie many who did not survive. In this motley crew of mine is a TWH mare–she’s a rescue. She spent her life living in a ravine having babies. She is the kindest most people oriented horse I have not personally raised and my Mustang has to gallop to keep up with her fast running walk. Those horses do NOT deserve that. Quit using horses shod like that and watch how fast trainers quit doing it.

Thank you
What a thorough and well put together report. As a supporter and rider of a naturally gaited Tennessee Walking Horse, I whole heartedly believe that the pads and chains must be outlawed in order to save these wonderful creatures from their daily torment. Despite some opinions, the breed will survive and thrive once the Big Lick is eliminated! Thank you for educating other parts of the world on our struggle.

Thankyou
As a Tennessee Walking Horse owner in Canada and an extreme advocat against ‘soring’ of these beautiful animals, I would like to thankyou on behalf of this wonderful breed that needs our help to enact the PAST act. All persons involved have to admit if they are being honest that the gait called the “Big Lick” cannot be acheived without soring. This is what must go down in history as a gross injustice to a most magnificent creature.

Thank you
Thank you to SBS Dateline for this excellent video. You showed both sides of this story, and you pointed out the fallacies within the Big Lick industry without resorting to sensationalism. Thank you for showing us the truth. We in America hope to end this abuse soon!

A culture of tolerance
TN, like many southeastern states, has evolved a culture of acceptance toward people who make their living in the performance horse industry. Because their fathers and grandfathers treated these animals this way, they are more likely to turn a blind eye toward their friends and neighbors that still do so. Even those who have experienced an epiphany toward these beautiful creatures often refuse to point the finger at those who still abuse them.

Your Walking Horse Presentation
As fair a presentation on this issue as I have ever seen. The program is aptly named. Shedding light on the long term issue of abuse is going to help the Tennessee Walking Horse recover and return to its original breeders’ intent, a multi-purpose animal, a family horse, and the world’s finest pleasure horse. May that time come sooner rather than later.

TWHBEA’S INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT WITH CANADA

TWHBEA MINISTER OF INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS WALT CHISM

TWHBEA MINISTER OF INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS WALT CHISM

Earlier in the year, TWHBEA Sr. VP Walt Chism caused an international incident when he rudely berated TWHBEA Director Bill Adams from Alberta, Canada who voiced support for the PAST ACT.  At that time,  Mr. Chism arrogantly forgot that the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeder’s & Exhibitors Association is an international organization, and as such,  the Director from Canada had every reason to be concerned with the PAST ACT.

With that backdrop, and the scrutiny from the “Walk Of Shame” investigative piece, it  was interesting to see the following being put out by TWHBEA this week:

TWHBEACANADA

I am sure the “Canada Fans” are on the edge of their seats.

And so it goes.
