In what can only be described as a Grassroots Movement envisioned by the Founders of America, ordinary citizens of the United States will join under the banner of the All American Walking Horse Alliance to assemble and WALK ON WASHINGTON and exercise their First Amendment Rights to urge the passage of the PAST ACT.

AAWHA – “WALK ON WASHINGTON – Rally To “PASS THE PAST ACT”
WASHINGTON, DC ““ A nationwide grassroots rally – “WALK ON WASHINGTON” ““
will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in front of the U. S. Capitol Reflecting Pool on 3rd Street SW on Union Square. Volunteers from all across America will gather to urge passage of the PAST ACT (Prevent All Soring Tactics Act) to end soring of Tennessee Walking Horses. The event is being sponsored by a group of concerned citizens against soring known as the All American Walking Horse Alliance.
AAWHA spokesperson Jeannie McGuire of Unionville, Virginia said, “We hope to bring public attention and legislative action to this bipartisan legislation. Endorsements have been received by the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the United States Equestrian Federation and the American Horse Council.” Other animal welfare organizations including the ASPCA and The Humane Society Of The United States support the bill.
The “WALK ON WASHINGTON” rally to “Pass The PAST ACT” will feature a parade of Sound Tennessee Walking Horses, a number of which are coming from U. S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) district.
Tentative plans also include the appearance of a scarred, former big lick TWH to educate the public and show Congress the conditions that result from soring, even 44 years after passage of the HPA (Horse Protection Act”.
The event’s keynote speaker will be author of the original Horse Protection Act, former U.S. Senator Joseph Tydings (D-MD), along with Representative Ed Whitfield (R-KY). Anticipated speakers, subject to confirmation, include Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Representative Ted Yoho (R-FL), Representative Steve Cohen (D-TN), Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) and others to be announced.

The PAST ACT (HR 1518) presently has 286 co-sponsors in the U. S. House of Representatives which is 66% of the 435 members. The PAST ACT (S. 1406) has 54 U. S. Senators endorsing it, and S. 1406 was unanimously reported out of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Subcommittee on April 9, 2014.
