COLUMBIA, TN – APHIS Administrator Kevin Shea and Deputy Administrator Chester Gipson, DVM apparently decided to “Pull Back” from enforcing the Horse Protection Act at the Columbia Spring Jubilee horse show.
Instead of enforcing the HPA to “Eliminate Soring”, the USDA returned to “Regulating Soring” and looking the other way.
The question is: WHY?
No matter the WHY, the bottom line is that The Horses were NOT PROTECTED.
AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE NOT GOING TO STAND FOR THAT!!!!
Eyewitnesses report that Dr. Rachel Cezar was not in attendance at Columbia. The USDA crew was headed by Dr. Johnson. The crew arrived after the start of the Show on Friday night. The intensity of their effort was sorely lacking. The large warm up ring was not properly policed. “There were chain carts all up and down there” said one witness. “The VMOS were definitely not as attentive as in recent shows.” Seasoned observers said the laxness started at the Fun Show where the VMOS really weren’t paying attention in the warm up area. Horses were “spinning chains” in front of the VMOS and they didn’t pull any of them back into inspection. One WHTA official was reported at Columbia to be “holding the cheek strap of a horse and doing a ‘little stewarding’ while the inspection was taking place.
The Trainer BOYZ are a wily lot, and word travels fast when the USDA changes its protocol and backs off. It was noticed at the Fun Show, and then some checking was apparently done and the Trainer BOYZ apparently got the word to ‘COME ON DOWN’ for the Columbia Spring Jubilee.
You don’t have the number of Horses owned by certain “knowledgeable” Individuals that the TRAINER BOYZ put in the show ring on Friday and Saturday nights at Columbia if the Trainer BOYZ had not been give the “Green Light” to go back to the “Good Ole Days”.
From the Edwards Brothers from South Georgia, to the Wright Brothers from Tennessee, the Kentucky BOYZ, Terry Dotson, Randall Baskin with Mr. Heisman, German National TWHBEA Director Denise Bader making her Middle Tennessee Big Lick debut while masquerading as Sound in the Fatherland, it was a first class spectacle.
APHIS Administrator Kevin Shea and Deputy Administrator Chester Gipson OWE the American people an EXPLANATION and an APOLOGY for not Protecting The Horses at Columbia, Tennessee.
The Horses at Columbia were DEEP and sitting on their butts.
They were walking SQUARE, not swing walking like they do when they are semi-sound.
After stepping up and enforcing the HPA to eliminate SORING at:
- THE NATIONAL TRAINERS SHOW
- JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI SHOW
- MOREHEAD STATE UNIVERSITY SHOW
- PANAMA CITY TRAINER BOYZ FAMILY VACATION SHOW
- GALLATIN HORSE SHOW
- CELEBRATION FUN SHOW
Shea and Gipson flip-flopped.
The AMERICAN PEOPLE need to light up the USDA on Monday, June 2, 2014, and DEMAND to know WHY “The Horses” Were Not Protected.
And to DEMAND that Kevin Shea and Chester Gipson, DVM do their jobs and enforce the Horse Protection Act to eliminate soring so that “The Horses” WILL be protected.
