KENTUCKY AFTER CHRISTMAS SALE – INCREASE IN HORSE SLAUGHTER PRICES HELPS 2015 “KENTUCKY AFTER CHRISTMAS SALE” IMPROVE NUMBERS

LEXINGTON, KY – Thanks to 65 cents  per pound price for horse meat, the annual    Kentucky After Christmas Sale  auction prices were slightly improved this year.

Formerly a four-day event exclusively for Tennessee Walking Horses  (including a                “Spot Light” sale featuring “Big Lick” Show Horses),   the 2015 version was a two-day affair.

Trying to get away from the sore Big Lick, the sale now advertises itself as a “Multi-Breed Gaited Equine Auction”.

Friday – approximately 125 horses catalogued – 90 horses went through.

Saturday – approximately 250 horses catalogued – expecting 125 – 150 go through.

Large cattle vans were waiting outside to haul away many of the horses sold to processing plants.    A friend of the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration,  Tennessee State Representative Andy Holt (R-TN) is a proponent of locating Horse Slaughter Plants in Tennessee.   Holt has described such legislations as a  “jobs bill” and “more compassionate because horses sent to slaughter now are transported to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico, where the closest plants are currently located”.

The proprietor of the Kentucky After Christmas Sale is Mr. David Landrum,  serial Horse Abusers, who served a two-year Federal Suspension from horse training.  Mr. Landrum has rented a Horse Barn from TWHBEA President Mr. Steve Smith for approximately 30 years.

In 2014,  Mr. Landrum “tried” to resurrect the “BIG LICK” version of the Kentucky After Christmas Sale in Mississippi.     The  Big Lick sale  called “Delta Select Equine Sale” co-owned by HPA violator David Landrum at Tunica, Mississippi on February 22, 2014 was a loser.

Apparently, the “Delta Select Equine Sales” was a “One And Done”,  because it is not scheduled for 2015.

At the recent “Celebration Association”   Mr. David L. Howard  told the members that now the PAST ACT was no longer a threat,   the Tennessee Walking Horse show season was looking good.

The week prior to Mr. Howard’s appearance before the “Celebration Association”,  USDA Vet Dr. Jeff Baker was harassed at the annual DQP training session in Shelbyville by Mr. Howard’s employee S.H.O.W. HIO Head DQP Mitchell Butler.  Finally Dr. Baker had enough, and left the session.  The remainder of it was taught by Mr. Butler.
