CULPEPER, VIRGINIA – On April 17, 2015, the American People sent U. S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack an overnight letter asking for a meeting as soon as possible to provide Secretary Vilsack with important information regarding the USDA APHIS’s failure, so far in 2015,  to strongly enforce the Horse Protection Act.

Since last Fall over 37,000+ persons have signed Change.Org Petitions against the Animal Cruelty of the “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horse.

So far in 2015, the following has taken place:

  • University of Mississippi dissociates from Mississippi Charity Horse Show and refuses to accept donations due to national controversy over the treatment and  handling of “Big Lick” Tennessee  Walking Horses.
  • North Carolina Commissioner of Agriculture bans “Big Lick” Horses from the 2015 NC State Fair.
  • Over 70% vote “NO” to The  Decatur Daily online poll if”Big Lick” Walking Horse Trainers Show should have been held in Decatur, Alabama, due to previous horse soring violations.
  • Over 4,200+ citizens protest  Animal Cruelty of “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horse Show in Columbia, Tennessee on Apr. 24-25.

THE 2015 CHRONOLOGY

On March 14, 2015,  a DQP Training Session was held at Harrodsburg, Kentucky  attended by APHIS Deputy Administrator Dr. Chester Gipson who personally assured all persons present that there would be no change in the USDA APHIS enforcement of the Horse Protection Act from 2014 to 2015.

On March 16, 2015,  AAWHA Official Lynn Delzingaro started a Change.Org Petition now signed by over  7,100  persons.   The Petition, supported by AAWHA and FOSH, asked the USDA APHIS to provide “USDA Horse Protection Activity Reports” for the Mississippi Charity Horse Show (Mar. 26-28) and the National Trainers Show (Apr. 2-4) by April 16, 2015.

STOP THE USDA “SCAR RULE” CHANGE WHICH WILL HURT TENNESSEE WALKING SHOW HORSES – PLEASE STRONGLY ENFORCE THE HORSE PROTECTION ACT AT THE MISSISSIPPI CHARITY HORSE SHOW ON MARCH 26 – 28, 2015

On March 26 – 28, 2015,  the Mississippi State Charity Horse Show in Jackson, Mississippi,  took place.  USDA APHIS Deputy Administrator Dr. Chester Gipson was present in charge of the enforcement of the Horse Protection Act.

On April 2-4, 2015, the National Walking Horse Trainers Show was held in Decatur, Alabama.

On April 6, 2015,   AAWHA official Lynn Delzingaro asked U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to provide “transparency and accountability”    and publish a ‘USDA HORSE PROTECTION ACTIVITY REPORTS” on or before Thursday, April 16, 2015, to let the American People know how many “SORE” Horses the USDA found at the two Horse Shows.

On Friday, April 10, 2015,   USDA APHIS posted the requested “USDA HORSE PROTECTION ACTIVITY REPORTS”.

On April 13, 2015,  the following Videos were put on Facebook. In six days,  the Videos have reached over 210,000 persons and over 63,000 people have viewed them.

Outrage and horror have poured in from all across America and throughout the World.

The Videos show an apparently sore bad image Three Year Old Stallion exhibited by Mr. Justin Harris of Shelbyville, Tennessee,  who has a long rap sheet of Horse Protection Act Violation Citations for “Soring” Tennessee Walking Horses.

On April 17, 2015,   after reviewing the “USDA HORSE PROTECTION ACTIVITY REPORTS”,  and the Public Outrage over the viral VIDEOs of the Three Year Old Horses that USDA APHIS Administrator Dr. Chester Gipson allowed to enter the Show Ring in Jackson, Mississippi on March 28, 2015,  the AAWHA (All American Walking Horse Alliance) and FOSH (Friends Of Sound Horses) requested a meeting with U. S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack.

Mr. Vilsack met with Sore Horse Advocates on March 30, 2013, which was attended by PSHA (Performance Show Horse Association) Chairman Mr. Terry Dotson,  Walking Horse Trainer President Mr. Mickey McCormick and Lobbyist Mr. Jeff Speaks.

This is the first time that representatives of grassroots American citizens have asked to meet with U. S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack regarding the Animal Cruelty of the “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horse.
