NASHVILLE, TN – Representatives from the States of Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia and Mississippi will gather at 2:00 p.m. in downtown Nashville, Tennessee to hear Rally Speakers, and publicly urge Tennesseeans to “BOYCOTT” the Animal Cruelty of the “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horse, and not patronize the businesses which sponsor “Big Lick” classes.
A Change.Org Petition with over 4,700+ signatures specifically asks citizens to “BOYCOTT” a “Big Lick” ‘Horse Show’ at Maury County Park in Columbia, Tennessee this weekend. Last week, 55 starving abused Tennessee Walking Horses were seized in neighboring Giles County.

Many emaciated mares were in foal to World Champion Horses standing at Rising Star Ranch in Shelbyville, Tennessee owned by Mr. Frank Eichler and managed by Mr. David Williams. The owner of the seized horses was Mr. Jeff Mitchell of Pulaski, Tennessee who now faces 55 felony charges for aggravated cruelty to animals. Mr. Mitchell showed at “Big Lick” shows over 90 times in recent years. He showed at the 2014 Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration:
Featured Rally Speakers will make brief remarks, then entertain questions from the media:
- Carl Bledsoe, former “Big Lick” Trainer who will tell the Animal Cruelty that what Walking Horse Trainers inflict upon horses to create the “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horse.
- Clay Harlin, whose grandfather was one of the Founders of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breed in 1935, and whose family owned the legendary Harlinsdale Farm in Franklin, Tennessee, will address the future of the Tennessee Walking Horse breed without the Animal Cruelty of the “Big Lick”.
- Clant M. Seay, Spokesperson for the All American Walking Horse Alliance, will report the recent progress made by the public abandoning the “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horse in the states of North Carolina, Alabama and Mississippi.

It is a voice for the Tennessee Walking Horse breed that deserves to be reclaimed from the dysfunction of unethical management of the breed and abusive treatment in the show world.
