SHELBYVILLE, TN – Mr. Hugh Jones, Publisher of the Shelbyville Times-Gazette, whose Rust Communications affiliated newspaper is a “Proud Sponsor” of the “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration, refused to run the following Ad submitted Monday by the Citizens Campaign Against “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty.
It’s an Ad against Hurting Horses.
The Rust Communications is a reputable family operation located in Cape Girardeau, MO. It started as a “Mom and Pop” shop in 1967, and now has 19 daily newspapers. 25 weeklies, minority ownership in 17 radio stations and more than 100 websites
Rust Co-President Mr. Jon Rust is on the AP Board of Directors. Co-President Rex Rust graduated from Harvard University with Honors.
Not exactly the type of folks you would find having any business sponsoring something which showcases “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty.
The Rust motto is: “It’s an exciting business with powerful ways to impact our communities for good, and we like to have fun doing it.”
Somehow, “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty doesn’t sound like the “Good” they had in mind.
And Gen’s Ice Glimmer, being the living example of “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty, sure wasn’t having any fun doing the “Big Lick” as so-called “Sport” or for “Charitable Purposes” or “Concession Stand Sales”, either.

In response to Rust Communications executive Mr. Hugh Jones rejecting the Ad against Hurting Horses, the Citizens Campaign Against “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty initiated the following Change.Org Petition which draws attention to the Rust Communications newspaper sponsoring and siding with “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty, and discriminating against persons who are opposed to it.

Nephew Eugene says ST-G Publisher Mr. Hugh Jones has gone and gotten the Rust Family of Cape Girardeau, MO in bed with the “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty in a big way.
Hopefully, now that the Rust Family knows who their bed partner is, they will jump out as fast as they can.
Please stay tuned.
