RIVERDALE PARK, MD – Ms. Lori Northrup, Anti-Soring VP of FOSH (Friends of Sound Horses) made one of best presentations at the USDA Public Hearing in support of the proposed Federal Regulation to remove the “Pads and Chains”, and end the “Big LIck” Animal Cruelty to Tennessee Walking Horses.
Ms. Northrup offered the following analogy in referring to “the financial damage that will be done to the Tennessee Walking Horse Show group” who are opposing the proposed Federal Regulation saying it would hurt their businesses. (MTSU Horse Science Professor Equine Vet Dr. John Haffner says these busiensses are based on the “suffering and pain of horses”.)
Ms. Northrup’s analogy: “These arguments are like saying that enforcing the laws against selling child pornography will ruin the business of those producing and selling child pornography. Imagine the Justice Department holding public hearings around the country, inviting child pornographers to attend and explain how enforcing these laws would damage their business. This would seem absurd, wouldn’t it.”
Ms. Nothrup said she had personally seen “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty.
Here are two examples.

Skywatch’s Magical Dream – Sep. 2, 2016
“Good morning. I am Lori Northrup, and my title is Vice President of Anti-Soring Initiatives for the non-profit organization FOSH, Friends of Sound Horses.
I have been involved as a volunteer for FOSH for the past 13 years, including serving as President for many of those years, and responsible for the (4) very successful Sound Horse Conferences that we have hosted.
I commend the USDA for their proposed rule change for the Horse Protection Act.
I have personally walked into Tennessee training barns with Tennessee Walking Show horses laying in their stalls in too much pain from soring to stand to even eat their hay. I have been thrown out as a visitor to such barns. I have been to shows and seen a Spotted Saddle Horse whipped in the show ring by an irritated rider, after the horse’s heavy flat shod shoe and band amputated the hoof off down to the quick.
I represent the large majority of Tennessee Walking Horse and gaited horse owners who enjoy their horses for their natural, magnificent gaits that need no artificial mechanisms. These breeds and the commerce around them will continue to flourish even more vibrantly once the stigma of soring is ended.
The counter arguments against this rule change all circle around the financial damage that will be done to the Tennessee Walking Horse Show group. Yes, I’m certain that the traditional groups, as they are known today, will not thrive economically in the future.
These arguments are like saying that enforcing the laws against selling child pornography will ruin the business of those producing and selling child pornography. Imagine the Justice Department holding public hearings around the country, inviting child pornographers to attend and explain how enforcing these laws would damage their business. This would seem absurd, wouldn’t it.
USDA, please hold strong in your intention to pass this rule change without further delay. Do not allow an extension of the comment period. After over 60 years of repeated soring abuses solely for the purpose of winning at shows, there has been enough time for comment.
Pass this rule change, which is supported by the majority of the Tennessee Walking Horse owners around the country and the world, by the veterinary organizations, by the organizations for humane treatment of all animals, and myself and by 90-year-old Edna Northrup, another long-time FOSH member who has joined me here today to support this rule change.
This HPA rule change will be the most effective step possible after decades of trying to end the abuses of soring.
Ms. Northrup’s erudite presentation aroused the ire of Mr. David Williams, an employee of “Big Lick” money man Mr. Frank Eichler whose wife Debbie is “addicted” to showing “Big Lick” TWH.
Mr. Williams decided to attack FOSH VP Ms. Northrup for her remarks.

Ms. Debbie Eichler, Addicted To Showing “Big Lick” TWH
Mr. Frank Eichler – “Big Lick” Money Man
Ironically, when it came time for Mr. Williams to make public remarks, he was unimpressive in his mumbling head down monotone “read it” comment he made at the August 9, 2016, USDA Public Hearing held in Murfreesboro, TN,
Attacking FOSH Is not a new thing for Mr. Williams.
In 2015, Mr. Williams also attempted to smear FOSH when it joined in an appeal to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi to sever all ties with the “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty. In response, Mr. Williams created a Facebook Page – FOSH Hates Children – which has now garnered a grand total of 381 “Likes”.
CCABLAC (Citizens Campaign Against “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty) initiated a Change.Org Petition asking UMMC to sever all ties and not accept “blood money” generated by Animal Cruelty. The UMMC acted within 7 days, and severed all ties with “Big Lick” Tennessee Walking Horses. UMMC also publicly refused to accept $50,000.00 annual charitable donation from the “Big Lick” Mississippi State Charity Horse Show due to it being generated from “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty.
Nephew Eugene says the practice of “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty, which is apparently so ardently loved and championed by Mr. David Williams, that he went over the top again in attacking Ms. Northrup is on the way out.
The 2016 Mississippi Charity Horse Show was the last one.
The “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty will no longer be featured in 2017 at the Kirk Fordice Equestrian Center located at the Mississippi Fairgrounds.
Nephew Eugene, says “Thank Goodness”.
