SHELBYVILLE, TN – The steadfast efforts of the Citizens Campaign Against “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty (CCABLAC) have, so far, resulted in the worst attendance at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration in the last 47 years.
CCABLAC’s public call for a “BOYCOTT” of the 10 day horse show, along with world-wide condemnation of the blatant Animal Cruelty featured at the “Celebration”, has taken a toll on the 79-year-old event. There were “vacancy” signs on motels on Saturday night in the “Pencil City”.
The local citizens no longer have anything to do with the 10 day horse show. At one time the event was filled with community pride, but it is now controlled by a wealthy clique of “Big Money” interests who profit from the event and don’t seem to care if the stain of animal cruelty hurts the local community.
Here is a historic newspaper Ad run by CCABLAC asking Tennesseans to BOYCOTT the Celebration.

Here are the Celebration’s West Grand Stands. This is where the general public sits. The capacity is 12,000 spectators. Last night there “may” have been slightly over 2,000 persons in sitting in the West Grand Stands. In days past, the Celebration’s “First Saturday” night attendance would be approximately 20,000, and the West Grand Stands would be full.
According to reliable and knowledgeable sources inside the event, there were approximately 3,500 – 4,000 attendees many of whom were the family members of the trainers and exhibitors.
America and the World have concluded that what you see on these two videos made by CCABLAC animal welfare advocates is “Animal Cruelty”. To the shock and horror of America and the World, the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration features the exhibition of TWO YEAR OLD Tennessee Walking Horses in EIGHT POUND SHOES and CHAINS.
