SHELBYVILLE, TN – Sick and tired of being stained by a “Tennessee Tradition” based on Animal Cruelty to their State Horse, and an effective appeal made by CCABLAC (Citizens Campaign Against “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty), Tennesseans decisively “Walked Away” from the 79th annual Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration.
PHOTOS OF WEST GRAND STANDS – 2017 TWH NATIONAL CELEBRATION
In years past, the Celebration’s West Grand Stands (capacity 12,000), would be jam-packed – standing room only – on the Saturday night before Labor Day. There would no vacant motel rooms within 50 miles. The local Chamber of Commerce had a waiting list of person who wished to rent homes to attend the 10 day event.
In 2017, you could sit anywhere you wanted to in the West Grand Stands, and you could spread out. There were Vacancy signs on motels all over Shelbyville on the featured Friday and Saturday nights. And nobody even thinks about renting their house out any more.
JAM PACKED WEST GRAND STANDS – 1992
In years past, the Governor of Tennessee would be on hand to crown the World Grand Champion Tennessee Walking Horse on the final Saturday night.
WORLD GRAND CHAMPION – TENNESSEE GOVERNOR – 1992
- There was NO Governor;
- There was NO United States Senator;
- There was NO – The Tennessean Newspaper Reporter – to even make a historical record that there was a 2017 Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration or that a “Big Lick” TWH World Grand Champion was crowned on the final Saturday night, Sep. 2, 2017.
Outside the event, CCABLAC Animal Welfare Advocates (Magnificently protected by the Shelbyville PD and Bedford County Sheriff Deputies) peacefully assembled and protested against the “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty:
Before the Celebration began on August 24, 2017, the Citizens Campaign Against “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty (CCABLAC) ran this Ad in the Sunday Editions of The Tennessean newspaper on Sunday, August 20, 2017:
CCABLAC “Wrong Side Of History” Award – Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
On Saturday, August 26, 2017, CCABLAC held a Press Conference at the Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro, TN, and presented Tennessee’s senior U. S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) with the CCABLAC “Wrong Side Of History” Award:
The following pictures and videos prove that Tennesseans from all walks of life, young and old, joined together the past 10 days to send a clear message all persons, including to Tennessee’s Senior U. S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN), that no “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty is acceptable in 2017.
According to MTSU Horse Science Professor Equine Vet native Tennessean Dr. John Haffner, “The ‘Big Lick” is a business built of the suffering and pain of horses”. The “Big Lick” is a learned response to pain.”
The Walking Horse Report (Fake News) reported that 2017 Celebration spectator attendance was 111,000.
The actual attendance was approximately 35,000+/- over 10 days.
The WHR Editor Ms. Sadie Fowler reported that on Saturday, Sep. 2, 20167, “there were 12,000 packing the stands for the final night”.
This BillyGoBoy.Com photo sure does show a lot of bare metal benches for the stands to be “packed”.
And this BIllyGoBoy.Com Head Count photo shows that there are only 762 persons sitting in the 12,000 person capacity West Grand Stand – a paltry 6%.
Not exactly “PACKING THE STANDS” as Walking Horse Report (Fake News) Editor Ms. Sadie Fowler described it.
Thanks to CCABLAC (Citizens Campaign Against “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty), it was the worst attendance at the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration in 47 years.
